I ran this cartoon in my Cartoon of the Day series and got
a lot of
favorable comments. It has to do with the stupidity of grown American men
who enjoy playing "RAMBO" on week-ends. While no other
country in the
world would permit this kind of behavior amongst its citizens, these guys
rail against the very government that gave them the freedom to do it.

BACKGROUND: The cartoon on the left, published in 1986 shows
Manuel Fraga, former Propaganda Minister under FRANCO returning
to politics one year after losing the Spanish elections to Felipe Gonzalez-
the satire plays on the fact that he had promised his young assistant,
Sr. Hernandez Mancha, that when he retired, he would leave the
Presidency of the Conservative "Partido Popular" to Sr. Mancha-
Ah yes! Without thepromises of politicians, I daresay,
there would be far greater unemploymentamong Editorial Cartoonists!
BACKGROUND: The cartoon on the RIGHT ABOVE, has to do with
the
escape of East German Dictator Eric Honniker to Russia to avoid
prosecution for his "shoot to kill" order for border guards of
the Berlin Wall.
One of the great injustices of the decade,is that because of his Russian
asylum, he was never brought to justice.
